Greptile Eyes $180M Valuation as Benchmark Leads Series A Talks

Greptile in Advanced Talks for $30M Series A Led by Benchmark
AI-powered code review startup Greptile is reportedly in discussions to close a $30 million Series A funding round at a $180 million valuation, according to sources familiar with the matter. The investment is expected to be led by Benchmark partner Eric Vishria. However, insiders caution that the deal has not yet closed and terms may still shift.
Greptile’s Rapid Rise
Founded by Daksh Gupta after graduating from Georgia Tech in 2023, Greptile quickly made waves in the AI development space. After participating in the Y Combinator Winter 2024 cohort, the company secured a $4 million seed round led by Initialized Capital. Greptile’s core product is an AI-driven code reviewer designed to act as an experienced coworker, deeply understanding customer codebases to detect bugs and potential issues that human reviewers might overlook.
Fierce Competition in AI Code Review
The AI code review sector has become highly competitive. Greptile faces rivals like Graphite, which raised a $52 million Series B earlier this year with backing from Accel and Anthropic’s Anthology Fund, and Coderabbit, which secured $16 million in a Series A from CRV. This competitive landscape has driven Greptile to adopt an intense work culture, with employees often working 9 am to 11 pm and frequently on weekends.
Work Culture Under the Spotlight
In late 2024, Gupta’s post on X (formerly Twitter) stating Greptile "offers no work-life-balance" went viral, sparking debates about startup culture in AI. Gupta later explained to the press that such intensity is necessary to outperform stronger competitors, adding, "No one cares about the third-best company, or even the second-best company in any category in software. If you’re going to put in 95 percent effort, it’s the equivalent of putting in 0 percent effort."
Benchmark’s Involvement and the Road Ahead
Attracting Benchmark as a lead investor at this stage could signal strong confidence in Greptile’s product and vision. As AI transforms software development, venture capitalists are keen to back companies that can stand out in crowded markets. Both Greptile and Benchmark have not commented publicly on the reported deal.
