Mistral, one of Europe's most prominent AI startups, is reportedly negotiating a major funding round that could raise up to $1 billion in equity. According to recent reports, discussions are underway with investors including Abu Dhabi’s MGX fund, with additional talks involving French lenders such as Bpifrance SACA for several hundred million euros in debt financing.
This potential raise follows Mistral’s rapid ascent in the AI landscape, having already secured $1.19 billion in capital and achieving a post-money valuation of $6.51 billion as of its Series B round in June 2024. The company is best known for its advanced open-weight large language models (LLMs) and its flagship chatbot, Le Chat.

The startup is actively collaborating with the $100 billion MGX fund and Nvidia to establish what is expected to be Europe’s largest AI data center campus. The United Arab Emirates has also pledged €50 billion toward AI projects in France, aligning with President Emmanuel Macron’s vision to foster an independent and innovative AI sector in the country.
